About
Students say this photo is cringe. 👍🏼
Hi! 👋🏼 I’m Dom Brassey (she/they). I’m a high school teacher at Coliseum College Prep Academy (CCPA), a public, non-charter middle/high school in Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) in California’s San Francisco Bay Area. I also teach part-time in the Multi-Media Arts (MMART) department at Berkeley City College (BCC).
- I teach AP Computer Science Principles, Digital Arts, and Game Design.
- I coach the robotics teams, which compete in FIRST FTC and Pioneers in Engineering (PiE).
- I advise the student-led Computer Science Honor Society.
I help students learn to…
- DECOMPOSE complex problems into smaller, solvable pieces;
- RECOGNIZE PATTERNS in emergent strategy environments;
- COMMUNICATE to build alignment around problem statements and priorities;
- DESIGN & DEPLOY rapid experiments and interpret data to guide development.

Before I was a teacher…
Before I became a teacher at age 40 ✨ I worked as a Brand Strategist and Technical Writer at Mapbox, a high-growth, venture-funded SaaS/DaaS startup competing in the mapping and geospatial technology space. My career experiences also include co-owning and operating a gender-nonconforming clothing startup; organizing diversity-focused educational events and tech career fairs in midsize cities across the United States; developing recruiting and retention programs for LGBTQIA+ tech workers; facilitating Women in Management groups at The Stanford Graduate School of Business; managing an ecommerce website for a multi-channel clothing retailer; designing and building websites and user interfaces; and producing communications for public benefit projects in the social sector.
